When traveling, there are now more options than ever when trying to find somewhere to stay, thanks to the introduction of sites like Airbnb. And while hotels have their obvious perks, Airbnb boasts a whole new range of options and perks that a regular hotel can’t always match.
Here are some of the top reasons why you might want to consider booking Airbnb digs the next time you travel.
It’s Likely Going to be Cheaper
For the same cost you’d spend on a hotel room, you’re going to end up with more amenities, more space, and possibly a more unique stay. Instead of rotating staff, you’ll be dealing with a personable host who’s glad you’re there.
And beyond that, Airbnb hosts typically offer discounts for extended stays. So if you’re looking at staying somewhere for weeks or months, you’re going to be hard-pressed to find a hotel that boasts the same discount.
More Space
Unless you’re booking a suite (which can be really pricey), your hotel room is likely to consist of one single room to serve as both your “living quarters” and “sleeping quarters,” plus a bathroom. If you’re lucky, you’ll end up with a mini-fridge and a microwave, both located next to the tv in your combo living and sleeping quarters. That means that everyone has to go to bed at the same time!
When booking through Airbnb, you have the option of getting more space for the same cost by booking a suite, guesthouse, or entire home/condo. So if you’re traveling with children, you can put them to bed in the other room, just like you do at home.
Or, if you’re traveling with someone who likes to get to bed early and get up at the crack of dawn, you don’t have to worry about waking them up if you’re not ready to sleep.
Better Flexibility
Hotels are big businesses, and there are a lot of people coming in and out. In order to keep things running smoothly, a hotel has to enforce strict check-in and check-out times. When booking a place on Airbnb, you have the ability to talk to your host and work out arrangements that work for both you and the hosts.
They likely don’t mind providing a check-out time after your kid’s regularly scheduled nap, or an early check-in time before an outing you want to schedule.
More Convenient Locations
Because Airbnb properties can be anywhere, you’re no longer limited to lodging in inconvenient spots, near busy highways, or in the middle of expensive business districts. While it’s understandable why hotels have to stay within certain areas, it’s not always the most convenient to what you’re trying to be near.
Airbnbs can be much more convenient if you’re trying to be close to family members or friends who live in a residential area, or you just want to be a little off the beaten path.

Instead of finding yourself in a big hotel full of travelers from various cities, staying in an Airbnb with locals is a completely different experience. You’ll end up having a much more authentic trip, and get to experience the city or town from a local’s viewpoint. You’re much more likely to discover amazing hidden gems.
